Men’s Health And Potassium Supplements

Should someone supplement Potassium? Potassium is a key ingredient to maintaining a healthy heart, muscle function, kidneys, nerves, and your digestive system. While certain foods naturally will provide the potassium levels most women and men need, there are select individuals who must have much more than what can be processed through eating like those without potassium issues. A potassium supplement is necessary for those who have either temporary or permanent deficiency that deplete their body of potassium, such as: being dehydrated, having vomited while sick, diarrhea, inflicted with kidney disease or gastrointestinal disease and from having fluids sweated out from your pores (heat stroke, sweat, dehydration, diarrhea, etc.), from vomiting (the 24 hour flu, bulimia, as a result of another condition), or because of having a disease, like Gastrointestinal disease, etc. Potassium supplements are specifically made to to restore or thwart potassium deficiencies.

Is there an ideal time to take your potassium supplement? The timing of your potassium supplements is depends on the kind of potassium you are currently taking, as its dosage and how often it is taken varies greatly. That said, however, potassium supplements are often taken two to four times per day, and most of the time with food. Your local druggist will help you if you should have any question or trouble creep up in relation to your supplements.

How should someone best take a potassium supplement? Always read the label of your prescription bottle for specific to that supplement, instructions. Both tablets and capsules should be taken whole; avoid crushing, if possible. That won’t be an option for every one. Individuals who have difficulty swallowing tablets may have that as an obstacle to overcome, that is alright. Do what you normally would do. If your potassium is in liquid, granule, effervescent tablet or powder be certain to mix your potassium in water, before drinking. Drinking in cold water can help in masking unfriendly flavors, or including your favorite fruit juice to your glass helps make your potassium much easier on your taste buds. Whichever form your potassium supplement comes in, taking your dosage with a full glass of water or a combination with juice is what is most recommended.

How To Prevent Grey Hair And Vitamins For Grey Hair

Gray hair is a direct sign of aging and most older people would like to prevent this from happening. But like aging, graying hair is a natural, unstoppable process. Having gray hair is not so bad. You can still have healthy and beautiful hair despite the gray and one way of achieving that is by giving your gray hair vitamins.

How does hair become gray?

Each hair follicle contains pigment cells that produce the chemical called melanin that gives the hair its natural color. The hair’s light or dark color depends on the amount of melanin each hair contains. As we get older, the pigment cells in the hair follicles die gradually. Because of this, the production of melanin becomes weak, making its color to fade to silver, gray, or white.

Keeping gray hair away

Everyone’s hair will turn gray eventually, but there is nothing wrong with delaying the process. Hair vitamins for gray hair are now available commercially to stall the appearance of gray hair. For the hair to continue to produce melanin, it is helpful to give it a steady diet of Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA). It is one of the many B-complex vitamins and is readily available both in capsule-form vitamin B-complex at your nearest drugstore. Pantothenic acid or Vitamin B-5 is another known vitamin for gray hair. It stimulates vitamin utilization and releases energy from food to for great hair and good skin. If partnered with folic acid, pantothenic acid helps restore the hair’s natural color so it fights premature gray hair.

Recently, researchers have come up with solutions to gray hair. According to cancer researchers, liposomes, substances that help deliver drugs into the body, can be utilized to deposit melanin inside the follicles. This means that if the hair naturally stops producing melanin, then melanin can be artificially deposited to the hair follicles. A leading cosmetics laboratory has also developed a precursor molecule for melanin called dihydroxyl-5.6-indole. This allows the natural process of hair pigmentation to take place naturally through a slow process of oxydization.

Piriformis Syndrome and Massage Therapy

In my San Antonio, Texas based Massage Therapy and Bodywork practice I often treat pain from various syndromes including Piriformis Syndrome. Like many painful conditions Piriformis Syndrome responds quite well to massage therapy and bodywork.

What is Piriformis Syndrome?

Piriformis Syndrome is the name of a painful nerve entrapment condition in which the sciatic nerve is placed under abnormal pressure by the piriformis muscle. The piriformis muscle attaches to the sacrum bone of the low back to the top of greater trochanter of the femur (thigh bone) and lies on top of the sciatic nerve. When the piriformis muscle becomes tight and enlarged, pain results from myofascial trigger points (knots) in the muscle, pressure on the sciatic nerve, and sometimes from the S-I Joint in the low back. Pain from Piriformis Syndrome is usually found in the extreme low back, buttocks, hip, and often the back of the thigh. Most of the time the symptoms are on one side, but may affect both sides in some cases. Additionally, people with Piriformis Syndrome often have trouble sitting for long periods and the pain may worsen when walking or squatting.

What is the cause of Piriformis Syndrome?

There are a number of causes for Piriformis Syndrome including direct blunt trauma to the buttocks, prolonged sitting while working or driving, Morton’s foot, or S-I Joint instability. Frequent or prolonged running on canted surfaces and participation in sports requiring quick lateral movement such as tennis, skiing, and basketball may also overstress the piriformis muscle and lead to Piriformis Syndrome.

Massage Therapy and Bodywork for Piriformis Syndrome

There are many ways that massage therapy and bodywork can be used to treat Piriformis Syndrome. The massage therapist will employ a number of techniques to relieve the condition. For example the massage therapist may use Neuromuscular Therapy or Trigger Point Therapy to eliminate myofascial trigger points in the piriformis muscle. The massage therapist could also use Myofascial Release techniques or Deep Tissue Massage techniques to release adhesions between the piriformis muscle and surrounding tissues while also using Muscle Energy Techniques to gently lengthen the piriformis muscle. Piriformis Syndrome also responds well to positional release therapies such as Ortho-Bionomy which work with the body’s nervous system to release muscles and improve joint movement in the area. In addition to working on the piriformis muscle it may be necessary to provide therapy for other muscles near piriformis and even to muscles opposing piriformis to improve muscular balance. Comprehensive treatment with massage and bodywork, in conjunction with a home program of stretching and exercise, usually helps to completely resolve Piriformis Syndrome.

Other Treatments for Piriformis Syndrome

While massage therapy and bodywork are an excellent treatment for Piriformis Syndrome there are other treatments you should discuss with your physician:

The Importance of Medical Waste Bins in Hospitals

A lot has been talked about over the years in hospitals regarding the health and hygiene in hospitals. Media too has given a lot of coverage to such issues in the past but one thing that has been over looked time and again has been the topic of hospital acquired infections. One of the most important tools in hospital hygiene is hospital bins.

Hospital bins are a great source of dirt that gets accumulated over a period of time if not disposed at the right time. They house a lot of waste that can contain a lot of waste products and a lot of bacteria which may further induce the levels of hygiene in patients. They also have bodily fluids and other waste products that if not followed with stringent measures will cause a lot of problems in people and even in patients.

Some hospitals have also installed fire retardant bins that are required in many places to follow the rules of safety and hygiene. The safety of the patients is crucial for the hospitals. These bins are very important in many areas where there is an urgent requirement of health and safety of the patients. Hygiene should be of top focus in places where health is of primary importance. These bins not only retard the fire but they also have anti-bacterial and microbial properties that will help in ensuring that the bin is not responsible for spreading any kind of diseases or infections.

There are many Medical Waste Bins, Community waste bins, Waste Collection bins in hospitals that are color coded and are also available in different areas like they are available in colors like yellow, orange, white and black. It helps in preventing any kind of contaminated diseases that have resulted due to conventional landfill. There are also simple sack holder bins that have pedals and at times even sensors that prevents to handle the bin. As handling a bin can be an issue because most people can get infections while handling the bins.

While installing the Medical Waste Bins, Community waste bins, Waste Collection bins one other thing that has to be taken care is the size of the bins. They all should be of the same size. If a bin is filled before time then there are chances that people fill the wrong products in the wrong bin. This can further cause medical waste leading to further landfills and other serious infections. So the hospital bin is a very important tool which helps in ensuring that the hospitals remain hygienic for a long period and it is the responsibility of the authorities to take care of this fact.

The Role of Hospitals Today

When you are sick, where do you go? When you had an accident and your knees got broken, where do you go? When you want to have a physical check-up to know your body’s condition, where do you go? There is only one place to go in these situations, and yes, this is the hospital.

A hospital is a health care institution where specialized staff members provide treatment to those who need it. The word -hospital’ was derived from the term -hospitality’, which means to treat visitors cordially. Before, hospitals were founded and funded by religious orders or charitable individuals. During the Middle Ages, these health institutions served other functions as well, such as almshouses for the poor or hostels for travelers.

Modern hospitals have large staffs that include professional physicians, surgeons, nurses, and other medical practitioners. They house the best and the latest technologies in the field. The role of the hospital as the main source of health care has been amplified greatly over the years.

Hospitals are classified into four basic categories: private, income generating hospitals; charity hospitals run by religious orders or other non-government organizations; industrial/military hospitals; and public hospitals. Hospitals are traditionally regarded as big institutions, although smaller facilities like Bakersfield hospitals provide basic and special services just as well.

Most people see the hospital as the place they visit when they are sick or in need of emergency care. They do not see this facility as a place for their ongoing health. However, these ideas are quickly changing. With a focus on developing community-based health programs as well as investments in constant quality improvement and information technology integration into the care-delivery process, a Bakersfield San Joaquin hospital and similar centers are slowly becoming the bastions of continuous health in their respective communities.

The goal of Bakersfield hospitals and their counterparts across the country is to maximize health by offering programs on wellness, disease prevention and early detection, and ongoing health management. They provide excellent facilities and offer expert medical services to patients worldwide. A professional approach partnered with patient-centric care has ensured continuous improvement in the patients’ quality of life.

Women’s Vitamins

Women’s vitamins come in many different shapes and sizes. Multi vitamins contain all minerals and supplements in addition to individual supplements. Women’s vitamins are suitable for almost every kind of need. For example, there are vitamins for active women, pregnant women and menopausal women.

Experts agree that only seven percent of women in America get the right vitamins and supplements they need. Most women are so busy with work, children, and everything else that it is very hard to find time to consider their nutrition. Sadly, more women are eating unhealthy, consuming fast foods that provide little nutritional value.

Women’s vitamins for active women, who do not need a supplement, can be found in many different stores. It makes little difference if they are a generic brand or a name brand. Some contain iron and some do not. Various types of women’s vitamins have different percentages of value in supplements.

For example, women’s vitamins for active women which come as a multivitamin will certainly have Vitamin A. Vitamin A has dozens of benefits and is especially helpful for the eyes. Vitamin A is usually contained in produce that is a dark orange color, such as carrots. Women’s vitamins that have Vitamin A will give 50 percent of the recommended daily dosage.

Other women’s vitamins that are often found in multivitamins include Vitamin B1 and Thiamine. These vitamins are used to protect from many different illnesses and are some of the most important of the B vitamins. They are found in fresh foods, but if a woman does not eat enough fresh foods, she will probably not be getting this daily recommended dosage. This is why women’s vitamins usually give 100 percent of the recommended daily dosage of Thiamine.

In addition, Vitamin B2 is found in women’s vitamins when they are in multivitamin form, and the vitamins contain 100 percent of the recommended daily dosage. Vitamin B2, also known as Riboflavin, is used to treat anemia and to promote healing.

Another vitamin is Niacin. Niacin, also known as Vitamin B3, is good for controlling cholesterol. For women that have good cholesterol, 50 percent of the daily recommended dosage will suffice. Women with high cholesterol should consult their doctor about a supplement.

Women’s vitamins also have Vitamin B6, or Pyridoxine. This vitamin helps to change the protein, carbohydrates and fats into energy. An active woman should have 100 percent of the daily recommended dosage for Vitamin B6 in her multivitamin.

Women’s vitamins have a countless number of different benefits, and all women should strongly consider taking some kind of vitamin supplement. The type of women’s vitamins a woman chooses to take depends heavily upon her age, lifestyle and other physical conditions. If a woman is uncertain about which vitamins to take, she should consult her doctor or pharmacist. If there is a medical condition, she must consult with her doctor before beginning any vitamin schedule.
